Djolof is a music group that was founded 1986 by Alioune Gueye from senegal, West Africa. The music unites traditional rhythm with western sounds to the so called Afro-Moderne. The group consists of musicians, who are from all over the world. This truely international group uses the percussion instruments Sabar - which is closely related to the family of the drums - and Bougarabou - which is similar to the Congas.

The repertoire centers around themes from natur and the human being in our society. The tree thus becomes the symbol for live. Most of the songs deal with the strong wish for peace between mankind and against the egoism in our every-day-life and optimistically looking forward to the future. The music tries to bring these messages by the harminic sound of drums, percussion, bass-guitar, guitar and keyboards and saxofon.

The harminic team-work of the musicians bring these messages in texts in Senegal's native language Wolof, in English and in French.

Djolofcomposes their own music. The group also is a more likely being one project in the way of bringing together musicians from all over the world to exchange ideas in the music and each one's expierences in their life. Their believe in no borderness in the music nor caused by the language nor the uncountable songs in the music from places all over this planet.
